Beethoven Park is a lovely, rather small local playground with a leitmotif located in Döbling, Vienna’s 19th district. If you’re expecting the leitmotif to be music, you are wrong. In fact, it’s a train-station-themed playground, with several wooden trains and a locomotive to climb, a train station that functions as a sheltered sand pit, and a trainspotting tower. There’s also a slide, swings, and some sports facilities, such as a football pitch, a basketball court, and table tennis. Having said so, the Beethoven Park playground is possibly not a destination playground in its own right, but you might want to visit it when hiking or travelling to Kahlenberg — both the City Hiking Trail 1 – Kahlenberg and the Heurigen Express Mini Train have their starting points nearby. And by the way, the name for the Beethoven Park playground comes from the Beethovengang Road that starts there. Since the famous composer loved the area and lived in various houses here, you will find more Beethoven around. His former houses are now homes to Beethoven-dedicated museums such as the Beethoven Eroica House (currently closed) and the Beethoven Museum Heiligenstadt, which both offer a rich educational program for children, schools, and families.
