Brennpunkt – Vienna´s Museum of Heating Customs

Under the slogan “Brennpunkt – the hottest museum in town”, the new Brennpunkt – Vienna´s Museum of Heating Customs is a modern specialty museum dedicated to the history and future of heating and everyday life in the city.
It explains, in an interactive way, the day-to-day challenges of private life like heating, cooking, bathing, and cleaning, as well as global and social challenges. Energy generation, future energy supply and the planning of energy-efficient homes – all these topics are presented in a very engaging way and can be experienced at the many interactive stations.
Brennpunkt is home to unique objects you won´t find anywhere but here: from old boiler plants and refrigerators, to catering kitchen facilities and steam heating to school stoves.
Nevertheless, the highlight for most children are the interactive stations and games, such as building your own energy-saving house, generating energy by muscle power alone, and bringing water to the boil in different-sized vessels.
The exhibitions use state-of-the-art modern technologies, experiment stations, quizzes, etc. Children learn much about fire, energy and urban sustainability topics – from district heating and cooling of the entire big city, to how to save energy and build your own energetically-passive house.
Aside from the exhibitions, the Brennpunkt – Vienna´s Museum of Heating Customs has a rich education programme.
For schools and kindergartens, they offer age-appropriate guided tours packed with fun, with energy playing the lead. Workshops can be modified to make them appropriate for any school or kindergarten age.
For families, there are the popular Hot4Family Sunday workshops. These are interactive creative family workshops where kids can craft, paint, discover, experiment and thus learn about fire and energy. Family workshops take place each Sunday from October to May, and last about 1,5 hours.
