Cobenzl Butterfly Path is an educational hiking trail dedicated to the topic of butterflies on Cobenzl hill in Vienna´s 19th district of Döbling. The Cobenzl has been a traditional day trip destination for Viennese families for decades, offering some of the most-beautiful views over Vienna. The Vienna Woods is a great place for pleasant walks with a stroller and easy reachability by Bus 38, car or on foot, as part of the City Hiking Trail 2 – Hermannskogel. Last but not least is the beloved Landgut Cobenzl Children´s Farm that keeps attracting kids to the area. Besides the farm, there´s also another animals-related reason to venture up to the peak of Cobenzl – the Cobenzl Butterfly Path! Founded by the MA49, the City Government Department for Agriculture and Forestry, this educational trail can be good fun for kids. It´s a 1.5-km long route that mostly leads to the Höhenstraße, through pretty meadows boasting fantastic views. The trail starts at Cobenzl Parking and ends on the Bellevue meadow and is perfectly doable with an all-terrain stroller. It´s free and walkable at any time of the year. Along the trail, there are numerous information tables where children can learn many interesting facts about butterflies. What are the four stages of the butterfly life cycle? How much time do they need for the complete metamorphosis from egg to larva to pupa to adult? How long do the butterflies live? Why do butterflies live so short? The answers are explained in a way that is interesting and easily digestible for school children. Once you have completed the Cobenzl Butterfly Path, we recommend you enjoy some play time at the nearby little known Gspöttgraben Caritas Am Himmel Playground or at the more popular Am Himmel forest adventure playground. For lunch, snack or a coffee you can choose between the Waldgrill am Cobenzl, located next to your starting point, and the Cafe Restaurant Oktogon am Himmel or the Häuserl Am Himmel, both of which are just a short walk from the end point of the Cobenzl Butterfly Path.
