The Dom Museum Wien is located in the heart of Vienna, adjacent to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. It houses some of the most valuable, sacred and historical artifacts in the world. It is a beautiful and surprising mix of world-class sacral and modern art collected by the Catholic church Cathedral treasury over centuries. One of the highlights of the collection is the oldest portrait of a real person in the Western world. The painting is of Rudolf IV, Duke of Austria and founder of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, who established Vienna as the center of the Habsburg Empire. You will also find many precious objects from both the sacral and sacred worlds. These objects are adorned with gold and jewels from the secular world. The new Dom Museum now also boasts the modern Dom Atelier where kids and adults can participate in one of many creative workshops. The program for kids, youth, schools, and families is impressively rich and includes guided tours, as well as age-appropriate interactive, creative and philosophical workshops for children ages 3 to adult.
