Donau Auen National Park – pure nature from Vienna to Bratislava. Y
ou fancy a trip in the middle of nature not far from Vienna? 9,300 hectares sound big enough? Do you want to experience some adventures and see a variety of different plants and animals in the wild? Welcome to Donau Auen National Park!
Whether on a hike, on a bike, or, more daringly, in a boat, the Donau Auen National Park can be explored in many ways. The huge national park known all over Austria stretches from Vienna to Bratislava and invites you and your family to discover the fascinating floodplain landscape along the Danube, as well as the flora and fauna living in it, together with your family. Show your children the impressive flora and fauna of the national park or simply take a bike tour along the Danube cycle path, which leads from Passau via Vienna and Hainburg to Hungary. The number of different activities here is enormous. Caution is required, however, with the regular floods that characterise the landscape — warnings must definitely be heeded here, and there may be blocked paths you need to avoid.
The Donau Auen National Park is a real treasure of nature and can be easily explored and discovered from the Viennese Lobau. A good starting point is the Vienna – Lobau National Park House in Donaustadt. By the way, they also have a great playground, the Playground Nationalparkhaus Lobau. Or you can start right in the heart of the National Park, where Orth Castle, situated in the idyllic town of Orth on the Danube, is a great place to look around. The Donau Auen National Park is absolutely recommendable for the whole family.
