Ernst Fuchs Museum

The Ernst Fuchs Museum is a breathtakingly opulent, white villa surrounded by nature and home to a specialty art museum located on the outskirts of Vienna, in Hütteldorf (Vienna´s 14th district). It´s also called Otto Wagner Villa since it was Otto Wagner, the famous Viennese architect, who built it for himself and his beloved wife, Louise, between 1886-1888. He later sold it, and the eccentric Viennese fantastic art artist, Ernst Fuchs, bought it. Both kids and adults are amazed by the unconventional building-style and incredibly fascinating paintings and artifacts, especially those by Ernst Fuchs himself. Fantastic art has many fans among children. The surrounding nature is perfect for a short walk. Some highlights for kids and adults include the Roman bath (yes, the artist really had a roman bath in his private house!) and a Nymphaeum – the huge, eye-catching fountain you see from the outside when passing by car. There´s nothing to do in the immediate vicinity and it´s a bit tricky, though possible and rewarding, to arrive by public transport. If you have a car, you can combine it with a visit to Roter Berg (featuring two cool forest playgrounds with some of the best views of Vienna), Paradies recreational area, or Ferdinand Wolf Park. Even better, make it part of a family hiking or cycling day with a cultural highlight. Combine the visit to the villa with one of the nearby outdoor locations like Steinhofgründe, Dehnepark or even Lainz Game Reserve, which all feature great forest playgrounds and picnic facilities.
