Firefighting Playground (Feuerwehrspielplatz) is undoubtedly one of the top themed playgrounds in Vienna. It’s located in Donaustadt, Vienna’s 22nd district. The playground is huge, and its leitmotif is firefighters in action. So, you can find a multiple-story firefighting station and a firefighters car which both together create one of the most exciting plus size climbing installations there are in Vienna. Or a cool, curvy toboggan slide which for many kids is the best one in the city. Or an original spider web hold by four oversize firefighters, and even a fire drake here. But there are also other attractions at Firefighting Playground (Feuerwehrspielplatz) such as a giant spider web, a sand & mud installation, a grassy football pitch, or swinging nets. There’s not that much for toddlers, yet it’s enough to keep them busy for an hour or two (while we bet bigger kids will not want to leave after several hours); indeed, little kids will find a few swinging animals, a sand pit, play water fountains, swinging nests, and quite a few swings of various types. The only drawback is the lack of shade; there’s not much of it at all. And the location is not that convenient for many people, either. There is, however, a forest nearby to make the Feuerwehrspielplatz a top hiking and day-trip destination. Nevertheless, this is a true destination playground that your children will love, so it’s worth it to take them here sometime, possibly combining the visit with one of the other attractions in the area. Kite-flying and picnicking are both great options here, too, since the Firefighting Playground (Feuerwehrspielplatz) features picnic tables, a drinking-water fountain, and a kite-flying area.
