Hackenberg is a unique little forest playground that boasts, hands down, one of the best views in Vienna. It’s located at the peak of Hackenberg hill in Sievering, close to Neustift am Walde in Vienna’s 19th district of Döbling. The playground itself is rather basic; it only offers a climbing installation with a slide, a covered sand pit, and some swings and swinging animals, but the view over the vineyards is priceless. For a while, you cancompletely forget you are in Vienna, especially if you stop at the nearby Schutzhaus Hackenberg and enjoy a glass of local wine and a Wiener Schnitzel while your kids indulge in their homemade apricot dumplings.
Nevertheless, you can still enjoy a lovely lunch with an astonishing view, even if you only stay at the forest playground, since there are picnic tables and a water fountain. Once here, you should definitely take a short walk to the Hackenberg water reservoir — we bet it’s one of the most beautiful water tanks you have ever seen! There are no proper sports grounds on Hackenberg, except for a meadow that kids often use as an improvised football pitch. The field is also suitable for kite-flying. All in all, Hackenberg is one of the most beautiful and lesser-known outdoor destinations with a playground in Vienna; that’s a true insider tip!
