Can you imagine living without hearing? What is it like to express yourself and make yourself understood when you are not able to talk?
Immerse yourself for one hour in the deaf world. Located in the heart of Vienna, in the Schottenstift, the Hands Up! is a deeply-touching exhibition that will take you and your children through a world where facial expressions and body language are more important than anywhere else.
On your own, or accompanied by a deaf guide, without hearing or talking, you will spend one hour in a world of challenges you never even realised existed. You will discover how much you can express visually – using your face and your body but without using words.
You will also get to know the basics of sign language. There are signs you will recognise without any prior knowledge, as well as others that are truly-tricky! Take a quiz which is particularly interesting for children.
And did you know deaf people enjoy music just as much as those with impaired hearing?
Experience first-hand how deaf people perceive music and watch poetry, literature and news.
The Hands Up! Exhibition, together with the Dialogue in the Dark exhibition, are located next door. They are some of the top places in Vienna for helping children, teens and adults develop empathy and accept diversity.
