The House of the Sea – Aqua Terra Zoo features the diversity of the global oceans in one building. Interested in seeing many great sea creatures without wanting to put yourself in danger or possibly be eaten by a shark? That’s understandable and you’ll be in good hands in the House of the Sea!
The House of the Sea houses the largest aquarium in Austria (with 300,000 litres) and is located inside a former Second World War flak tower. Featuring 11 floors with numerous and different sea animals, you can spend a wonderful afternoon with your family. On the 10th floor, you can see a hammerhead shark tank, while a ten meter-long Atlantic tunnel can be found on the ground floor running in the middle of a huge basin. Discover the now almost-famous sea turtle “Puppi”. The tropical house and the crocodile park invite you to inspect the free-flying birds and running monkeys, crocodiles and other animals. The terrarium department, home to numerous snakes and spiders, is also a must-see. The café on the 11th floor provides a great opportunity to review the collected impressions over coffee and cake. In the Haus des Meeres, you can also organize great birthdays for your children. This is an absolute must for every visit to Vienna. Tip: Right in front of the House of the Sea, there´s a cool playground, the Esterházy Park.
For kids and families: Complimentary animal feeding sessions are offered regularly – the schedule can be found on the website. Both kids and families can receive free guided safari tours of the adventure ZOO on Mondays with paid entrance tickets for all persons. Special guided tours are offered for schools and kids’ groups, starting at age 6. The children’s birthday parties are quite popular.
