The Hubertuswarte is an observation tower built on the highest point in the Lainz Game Reserve, the Kaltbründel Berg (508 m above sea level). The tower is 22m. To get to the top, you’ll need to climb 122 steps, quite-challenging for little kids. The effort pays off, since the view from the top of the tower is truly rewarding. You not only get the view of the entire Lainz Game Reserve, but also of the large panorama extending to the Ötscher mountain in the west, to the mountains of Schneeberg and Rax in the south and Braunsberg near Hainburg and Slovak border in the east. You also get views of Vienna and surrounding villages. Note that this view of Vienna is not as great as the one you get from Kahlenberg, Cobenzl, Leopoldsberg or Hermannskogel.
The control room is always open, except in cases of snow or ice, and admission is free. It takes about 20 minutes (at an adult’s pace) to reach Hubertuswarte observation tower from Gasthaus Rohrhaus and Gasthaus Am Hirschg’stemm. It can only be reached by foot, since bikes and cars are not allowed in the Lainz Game Reserve. You can walk nicely with a stroller but won´t be able to take the stroller with you into the observation tower. If you plan to climb to the viewing platform, you´d better bring a baby carrier. Our tip: there´s a nice forest playground right next to the Rohrhaus Restaurant (see Rohrhaus Playground for details).
