Virtually all kids love Hundertwasser and his works! For insight into his work in the most relaxed way (and for free), the Hundertwasser Village Gallery is your best bet. The Hundertwasser Village Gallery is a visitor centre and small shopping gallery, located just opposite the famous Hundertwasser House. Thousands of visitors pilgrimage here from all over the world to see the iconic building. Since the house is a social housing project, it cannot be visited inside, so people can only admire the facade. To give crowds of people the chance to see more, Hundertwasser created the Hundertwasser Village, staying true to his idea of vivid colors, soft shapes, curvy lines, and nature integrated into the building. It´s a place of encounters, strolling and shopping. The inside is designed like a small oriental bazar with several quirky art shops where you can buy original souvenirs, accessories, art, or books; a little art gallery; and a couple of cafes. Outside on the roof, Hundertwasser planted trees which have since grown into a proper roof forest.
Admission to Hundertwasser Village Gallery is free, and it´s open 365 days a year. Since its opening in 1991, it attracts about 1.2 million visitors per year. If you are a proper Hundertwasser fan and want a deeper look at his work, visit the Kunsthaus Vienna – Museum Hundertwasser, which is about a 500-metre walk.
