Lainz Game Reserve Visitor Centre is the starting point for all visitors to the Lainz Game Reserve who are interested in information about nature in Vienna, the Vienna Woods, and the Lainz Game Reserve itself. One focus is the permanent exhibition called, Biosphere Reserve Vienna Woods, which includes wild animal models. A highlight for children and adults is an interactive landscape model of the reserve where you can check the gates, playgrounds, restaurants and other places of interest. Once you choose the place you want to reach, the LEDs on the 3D map will show you the way to get there.
The Lainz Game Reserve Visitor Centre is also the starting point for a new nature discovery trail called, Hermesvillapark, as well as for all official guided tours through the reserve. The tours are led by professional staff from the Department of Forestry and Agriculture (MA 49), take about 3 hours and can be booked for free for school grades 1-8, April through October, except school holidays.
Lainz Game Reserve Visitor Centre is located near one of the entrances to the Lainz Game Reserve, the Lainzer Gate. For families, this is the most popular entrance to the game reserve, since it´s close to the favourite Lainzer Gate Forest Playground, a nice pond with ducks, and a fenced area where deer and other wild animals roam freely. It´s also quite close to the Hermes Villa, one of the most beautiful villas in Vienna, once belonging to Empress Sisi and is now open to the public. It offers a great programme for children and families and houses a renamed (and kid-friendly) restaurant, the Hermes Café Restaurant Labstelle.
The only pitfall when entering the Lainz Game Reserve from Lainzer Gate is the lack of parking spaces at the car park. We recommend you arrive by public transport, especially on a nice weather weekend.
