Lilarum Puppet Theater is Vienna’s largest theater for children located in Vienna´s 3rd district of Landstrasse. Founded in 1980 by Traude Kossatz, they perform puppet shows for children from 3 to 10 years old as well as for adults. Their iconic, plus-sized puppets are loved by little kids to the point where they have become a kind of Viennese legend. For many kids from Vienna and its surroundings, the Lilarum represents their first encounter with theater and the performing arts. The scope of the performances is just to make kids love and enjoy art, not to educate. After shows, there are various themed workshops (these are optional, but not bookable without attending the performance itself).
The Lilarum Puppet Theater puts on a total of about 370 performances a year for approximately 40,000 visitors. The program focuses clearly on the theater’s in-house productions (meanwhile, their repertoire comprises 25 performances), but they host national and international artists on a regular basis as well.
In collaboration with WienXtra, the Lilarum Puppet Theater often offers performances and workshops at a strongly reduced rate.
