Lobau Forest School is an amazing eco-educational institution located in the Wien – Lobau National Park House. Its primary aim is to educate children about the Lobau fluvial forest ecosystem in a playful way and teach children how to deal responsibly with nature.
Their offer is primarily aimed at school classes and kindergartens, though there are some open days for the general public as well.
For school classes from 1st through 8th grade and kindergartens, the Lobau Forest School offers day-excursions in the Lobau area. Children experience an eventful day made of active discovery, playful learning, and practical experience. They learn about the fluvial forest and its diverse animal inhabitants.
Part of the day is spent inside in the Forest School teaching rooms, while part is spent outside with professionally-trained Forest School educators. Additionally, the children can use the offers and attractions of the whole Wien – Lobau National Park House, including the cool adventure Playground Nationalparkhaus Lobau.
Excursions can be arranged free of charge on any school day and can take place in any weather. The program takes about three hours, starting at 9am and lasting until 12am. A meeting point can be agreed individually, though it’s usually directly at the visitor centre of the Wien – Lobau National Park House, or at a bus stop. There are two near bus stops, the Naufahrtbrücke bus stop (Bus 93A) and the Raffineriestraße / Biberhaufenweg bus stop (Bus 92B).
The Lobau Forest School is run by the City of Vienna´s s MA49 Department for Forestry and Agriculture and the free excursions are part of the EULE project, the environmental education offer from the city of Vienna.
