The Palmenhaus Schönbrunn is a large greenhouse located in the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens. It’s home to over 4500 plant species from around the world. With a length of 111 meters, and 2,500 square meters in area, it’s the largest and the last palm house of its kind on the European continent.
The Palm House is divided into three pavilions, dedicated to three climate zones, which are connected to each other by tunnel-like corridors. The tallest room houses plants from the Mediterranean region, South Africa, the Americas, and Australia. Plants from China, Japan, the Himalayas, and New Zealand grow in the northern room. In the third area, various tropical and subtropical plants grow, meaning that the climate is hot and humid there. Most parts of the Schönbrunn Palm House are also suitable for strollers. We recommend combining a visit to the Palmenhouse with a visit to the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens, the Desert Experience House, or the Schönbrunn – Maze & Labyrinth, which also houses a great unconventional playground, the Labyrinthikon.
