Sigmund Freud Park is a relaxed, spacious park in Alsergrund, Vienna’s 9th district. It doesn’t feature any playgrounds, but it makes a nice place to stop when you are in the area of Schottentor and Votive Church. It’s situated almost on top of the famous Ringstrasse, next to the University of Vienna. Sigmund Freud Park is a favorite chillout place in the heart of the city, especially in the summer, when there are comfy sunbeds on the grass that are free to use. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that it’s highly popular with students, tourists, and even families with kids who enjoy sitting on the grass and reading a book or having a picnic with a perfect view of the Votive Church. Once here, do not forget to pay a visit to the PaN-European table, which is situated at the very end of the Sigmund Freud Park, just opposite the Votive Church. PaN stands for Partner of All Nations, and the memorial was built in commemoration of the accession to the European Union of Estonia, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Cyprus on 1 May 2004. Each granite chair represents one of these countries. If your children need a playground in the area, it’s easy: just cross the street, and you are in the Votiv Park, where you will find a small but charming play area with a water playground. Do not expect any sports grounds in Sigmund Freud Park, but to remain on the positive side, there’s a drinking-water fountain, which is priceless on those hot, sunny days in the city.
