How would you imagine an Imperial library hall? Whatever your expectations, they are guaranteed to be exceeded when you enter the Prunksaal. The State Hall, a baroque jewel and the heart of the Austrian National Library, is the biggest Baroque library in Europe and one of the most beautiful library halls in the world. Located in the beautiful Hofburg Imperial Palace and nearly 80 metres long and 20 metres high, it’s home to over 200,000 tomes as well as four amazing Venetian globes, each with a diameter of over one meter. Now, you can’t really dig in the historic books, but you can see a few of them displayed in wooden cabinets. The ambience itself is impressive enough, but there is so much more on offer for children and youth. Entertaining, child-appropriate guided tours are available for private groups of ten or more persons, recommended for chldren aged 6 to 12 years. Where are the magical animals hiding? Children set off together on a search for all kinds of animals that are hidden in the large ceiling fresco of the State Hall and in valuable books. Alternatively, the current special exhibition in the State Hall is on the schedule. For individuals, public guided tours and events are offered as part of the Wiener Ferienspiel in cooperation with WienXtra. Moreover, special children’s and youth’s events take place here on public holidays and during school holidays.
