The Theatre Museum is a museum of national theatre history, situated in the Palais Lobkowitz in Vienna. Not only is it one of the biggest and most important centres of its kind in the world, but it´s also one of the most kid-friendly museums in Vienna. The Theatre Museum collects, preserves, researches and puts on display collections on all topics of the performing arts, ranging from theater, musical theater, dance, film, to figure and puppet theater.
The Theatre Museum also offers one of the best education programs for children in Vienna, with a separate department devoted to children. The aim is to introduce kids to the stage-world and performing arts in a playful way. Plenty of workshops are offered to kids starting as early as kindergarten and continuing through to high school age. The workshops are very interactive and engaging. Be it improvisation, shadow theater, dance theater, musical, opera, circus or mask theater – at the Theatre Museum, children and young people can try out nearly everything.
Dressing up, acting, storytelling, theater making, puppet crafting, singing – there´s a workshop or class for pretty much everything related to the stage.
For families, there´s a special project called Theaterkids, creative theater afternoons designed for kids ages 5-10 years, taking place twice per month on Mondays and Saturdays. Children get the chance to learn more about the theater and its numerous varieties, as well as to experiment themselves, create costumes, play theater, perform, and much more.
Finally, Theatre Museum offers fun-packed birthday parties for kids 5-12 years old in the Theater studio.
