Vienna Concert House

One of the most important-concert halls in Vienna, the beautiful Vienna Concert House was opened in 1913 as an alternative to the famous Musikverein as a venue for music festivals for the broader public. Today, the Vienna Concert House is also the musical institution offering top notch musical education programmes for children and young people. It’s truly one of the best in Vienna.
From the beginning, it strived to emphasise both traditional and innovative musical styles. It presents not only classical repertoire, but also progressive contemporary music, and covers virtually all musical eras from the Middle Ages to Renaissance, to Baroque to Jazz, and includes both Austrian and international. With such a broad focus, there are plenty of musical festivals organised at the Vienna Concert House, featuring something for everyone in the family. We highly-recommend you visit a concert one day!
The Vienna Concert House building is an experience all its own. It´s a beautiful atmospheric Art Nouveau building, located close to the Vienna City Park (Stadtpark) and the ornate Ringstrasse.
Moreover, the Vienna Concert House offers an outstanding outreach programme aimed at children starting from early kindergarten age through adults. Playful musical workshops, personal encounters with musicians, and backstage tours are just some of the popular forms of education offered by Wiener Konzerthaus.
For families and children, the Vienna Concert House has a vast array of offers aimed at introducing children to music and concerts. Activities are designed in different ways, based on children´s age. For the youngest ones, starting at 1 year, the focus is on a playful introduction to the world of music using games of rhythm and recognition. From ages 3 years and on, the offer includes concerts with painting and handcraft activities. Musical fairy tales are at the center of the offer for children ages six and up. Children ages eight and up can try out musical instruments for themselves in a musical merry-go-round. Vienna Concert House also offers special events for children up to age 12 years such as Cinello, Triolino, Piccolo, or Concertino cycles. For older children, there are subscription and concert series such as “Vorhören!” or “Im Klang” designed to give children an easy introduction to the large symphonic.
The concert series “Vorhören!” answers questions, like: What is a symphony?, Why don’t you clap between the individual movements? and What does a conductor do? “Im Klang” (In Sound) is an unusual series of interactive moderated concerts allowing young people to sit in the orchestra and experience a concert from a different perspective.
For schools and kindergartens, specially-designed formats are available including school concerts, play activities, interactive workshops, rehearsal visits, and visits to concerts.
For those under age 26, an exclusive youth membership, the You(th) Lab programme, is available and provides backstage access as well as discounts on subscription series and individual tickets.
Anyone up to age 26 can buy any remaining tickets for €12 at the box office on the evening of the concert.
