The Vienna Ring Tram is the easiest and most comfortable way to experience the world-famous Vienna Ringstrasse boulevard with children. Did you know that the Ringstrasse is an Austrian World Heritage site? It´s a majestic boulevard that was laid out in the mid-19th century around the center of the city, replacing the old city wall and the glacis. A number of ornate buildings, such as the Vienna State Opera, Parliament, Kunsthistorisches Museum (Art History Museum) Vienna, Natural History Museum Vienna, Hofburg Imperial Palace, Vienna City Hall, Burgtheater, Musikverein, Urania Observatory, and the Austrian National Library were erected along the resulting boulevard. Additionally, some of Vienna´s most beautiful gardens and parks are located along the Ringstrasse boulevard, like the Burggarten, Volksgarten, and Stadtpark. The latter even boasts several cool playgrounds in its newer part, called Stadtpark Kinderpark. The Vienna Ring Tram is a historic yellow tram which runs along all the most important sites of the Ringstrasse. While several trams are partially running on the Ringstrasse, the Vienna Ring Tram is the only one that allows you to complete an entire round on the Ringstrasse boulevard without changing trams. The ride takes approximately 25 minutes and it starts and ends on Schwedenplatz. You will receive an audio guide providing you with the essential information on the sights in eight languages including English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian, Russian, and Japanese, as well as in the Viennese dialect, over headsets. For children, there’s a special age-appropriate audio program. Departure is daily from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm on the hour and half hour. You can take a stroller with you, but bear in mind that the tram isn´t a low board type, which means getting in with a stroller is a bit of a challenge. The drivers are generally very friendly and ready to help you get in, but it´s still a bit of a hassle, so we would recommend bringing a baby carrier instead. You can purchase a ticket for a tour only on the Vienna Ring Tram or a ticket in combination with a Vienna Sightseeing Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour.
