Wasserturm Water Playground is a huge, free water playground located in Vienna´s 10th district of Favoriten.
Covering an area of around 15,000 sq. metres, it´s a common project of the Vienna Wasser Department (MA31) and the Vienna Gardens Department (MA42). It´s composed of a water playground itself, a huge meadow, and several sporting grounds and facilities, including a volleyball ground, an Active Park with fitness equipment, and a table tennis table.
The most exciting part of the Wasserturm Water Playground is the water playground area. Its highlight is a huge pond with ice-cold water, which is super refreshing on hot days. Plus, there´s a cool wooden rope ferry which is absolutely loved by the children; indeed, on good weather days it´s almost constantly in operation. Another favourite place is a tiny shallow creek which is great for water plays. There are also two waterfalls and a beautiful leafy arch which is an imitation of an aqueduct.
Another attraction is a giant, 6-metre tall water tower slide, a miniature of the proper Wasserturm, the beautiful former water supply tower situated nearby (and that gave the Wasserturm Water Playground its name). There´s also a sand and mud playground with a drinking water fountain.
For refreshments, there´s a small kiosk which sells drinks, ice-cream and little snacks. There´s also park animation for children. At their counter, you can also borrow sun umbrellas – and we bet you you will appreciate it on hot days considering there´s very little shadows in the water playground area. The sun ombrellas are available for free but you will need an ID document with your photo on it if you want to borrow one.
Last but not least, there are also toilets and showers available at the Wasserturm Water Playground. Both can be used for free, however, to use the toilets, you will need a jeton which you can get from the park animation staff.
The playground is open every day Monday to Froday during summer season which typically lasts from April to end of September.
Should the Wasserturm be located somewhat inconveniently for you, you might want to try other water playgrounds in Vienna instead. The best and most populaar one is the Danube Island Water Playground in Donaustadt.
