Setagaya Park

If you are an #instamom or simply in the team #momswithcameras, you must have come across amazing pictures of Setagaya Park, the Japanese garden, so many times. In April when the garden opens after the winter break and the trees are in full blossom, it´s a truly-beautiful place to be and to take pictures of. The Setagaya garden in blossom is so photogenic that Instagrammers and photographers from all Vienna marsh here in crowds to stumble upon its beauty and create pics other can stumble upon too.
Setagaya Park was designed in 1992 by landscape gardener Ken Nakajima from Japan. Setagaya is a suburb of Tokyo and a twin city of Vienna´s 19th district Döbling, where the Setagaya Park was laid out near a retirement home. The garden emulates a Japanese landscape with several ponds and streams, and contains the densely-planted garden elements that are typical of Japanese gardens. There is also a Japanese tea house, a pagoda, Yukimi style stone lantern, several stone sculptures, and a fountain, as well as a poem set in stone at the entrance to the garden. An information table is available to teach you about the fundamental elements of Japanese gardens and is located at the crossing of two busy streets. Going through its entrance gate, you will find yourself in a different world. Seriously. A perfect oasis of peace and harmony. The rich variety of plants including fairytale magnolias, Japanese maple, ornamental cherry trees, and azaleas, all of which are in bloom at different times to createe a different look of the Setagaya Park from season to season. Dogs and bikes are not allowed. There´s no cafe or refreshment option on site (the beforementioned Japanese tea house isnot a proper tea house). There’s no playground, but several playgrounds in nearby Heiligenstädter Park, with the Rothschild Garden Hohe Warte being the nearest. If Japanese gardens are your cup of coffee, you may find more of them in the School Gardens Kagran, in Schönbrunn, in Kurpark Oberlaa, and in Floridsdorf (tiny Tora San Park).
