Therme Wien is one of Europe’s most contemporary city spas and a popular hotspot for families since its opening in 2010. The Therme Wien is located on the outskirts of Vienna, next to the wonderful Kurpark Oberlaa with its cool playgrounds, petting zoo and gardens, making it a perfect family daytrip combination.
Besides a vast indoor and outdoor pool area (spread across 4,000m²), it also features a sauna area of around 3,000m², a 6,000m² healthcare centre and a 1,200m² gym. For families, the most-exciting part is obviously the pool area featuring various pools with cold and hot water, some even with jacuzzies and kids´ adventure slides. The highlight for bigger kids is a tall adventure toboggan slide which they can ride on rubber rings, while toddlers and little kids love the huge children’s water playground and pool area. Another favourite for little kids is a water springs area. For teenagers and adults, there are three diving towers in different heights, a rarity in Vienna.
Entrance to the Therme Wien is not exactly cheap, but we are quite sure you´ll find it worth the money. Three hours are included in the entrance fee, anything beyond that is charged by the minute, up to a maximum of 6 hours. For over 6 hours, a daily ticket is charged. Children ages 3-14 get reduced prices, with kids under 3 years entering for free. Kindermontag, taking place on Mondays, allows for one child per each adult receiving free entry.
Every day features a children’s entertainment programme at the thermal spa. There´s also a rich schedule on baby swimming and children’s swimming lessons. Bringing your own food or drinks is not allowed, but a self-service restaurant with fair prices is available.
Changing rooms are family-friendly and feature a plenty of wardrobes and cabins. Baby changing tables are also provided.
Getting there by public transport is easy since the spa is located on the end station of U1 underground line Oberlaa, about a 15-minute ride from St. Stephan´s Cathedral. When arriving by car, parking may be an issue, especially on the weekends.
Our tip: The Therme Wien tends to get really crowded on weekends and holidays, so we recommend purchasing tickets in advance to skip the queue.
