No doubt, the Viennese Fiaker (horse-drawn carriage) belongs to Vienna just like the Sachertorte or Christmas markets. But have you ever thought of where the Fiaker comes from? Or better yet, have you ever had to answer your child´s questions, like “Where do the horses go in the evening after work”?
The Original Viennese Fiaker Stable tour will answer all your questions! It´s a secret-revealing tour of an original Viennese Fiaker horse stable with the famous Lipizzaner horses. You will learn and discover a lot about the horses, the coachmen and their daily work, and see the stables where the noble Lipizzaner horses live. “Where does the Fiaker come from?” “Where does it go in the evening after work?” “What does the coachman’s workday look like?” These and other questions will be answered during the tour.
Part of the tour is also a Fiaker ride back to the city center, to the Michaelerplatz. Here, between the Hofburg Imperial Palace and the Church of St. Michael, you will find one of Vienna´s principal Fiaker stations. On the way, you will pass through the uprising St. Marx district and past many of Vienna top sites situated on the famous Ringstrasse.
The Fiaker Horse Stable that you will be visiting is a traditional Viennese Fiaker family business, located in Vienna’s 11th district of Simmering. It´s recommended that you dress according to the weather conditions because the Fiaker is an open-air carriage, and that you wear comfortable shoes suitable for a horse stable visit. The tour is organised by Riding Dinner.
Riding Dinner also offers exclusive culinary horse-drawn carriage rides for one to four people through the city center which are a somewhat different experience, recommended especially for families with older children. Besides enjoying the fantastic view of many famous Vienna sites, you will be served typical Viennese food and drink specialties procured from traditional Viennese restaurants and coffee houses such as famed Café Landtmann.
