Schönbrunn Panorama Train is arguably the best way to see all that Schönbrunn has to offer if you are visiting with small children. Seriously, if you are short of time and want to squeeze more things in Schönbrunn in one day, or your kids are small or simply tired, this is a real life-saver and possibly your best-spent money in Schönbrunn, because there´s just so much to see!
Schönbrunn Palace and Schönbrunn Palace Gardens are amazing, quite possibly even the absolute winner among Vienna´s best places to explore with families. Nevertheless, the imperial complex is incredibly vast (about 160 hectares, to be precise) and walking everywhere might become a bit challenging after some time, especially with little kids. No matter if your primary interest is the Schönbrunn Zoo, Schönbrunn Palace, Marionette Theater Schönbrunn Palace or the Schönbrunn Children´s Museum, thanks to the Schönbrunn Panorama Train, there´s no need to skip everything else in the huge Schönbrunn complex just because it requires a bit (or even a lot) of walking.
The Schönbrunn Panorama Train comes in quite handy. For a small fee, it will take you comfortably, at any time of the day to places that you would have otherwise had to skip. We absolutely recommend it! Thanks to the mini railway, you have the chance to spend much more of your day at Schönbrunn doing things that your kids will love – be it watching the Apple Strudel Show (including eating the delicious traditional Viennese strudel), enjoying the fantastic view from the Gloriette and typical Viennese food at the Café Gloriette, getting lost at Schönbrunn – Maze & Labyrinth, having kids play at the super cool Labyrinthikon Playground, or exploring fascinating plants from every continent as well as desert animals at the Schönbrunn Palm House and Desert Experience House. A full round by the Schönbrunn Panorama Train takes about 50 minutes. At a speed of 10-15 km/h, it takes you through the entire castle park and includes nine stops, so you can get to all Schönbrunn attractions in full comfort on the diesel-powered train.
Each train set can accommodate a total of 55 passengers. You can take your baby, and even the stroller, with you on board since the last trailer of the train has a hydraulic lift for wheelchairs and prams. Expect longer wait times on the weekends and during the summer months due to an increased number of visitors.
Trains run daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm, except for cases of extremely bad weather. Tickets are valid all day. With ticket and hand stamps, you can get on and off the train as often as you like.
