Esterházy Park is a surprisingly cool, medium-sized neighborhood playground located next to the House of the Sea – Aqua Terra Zoo and the Flakturm Climbing Wall in Mariahilf, Vienna’s 6th district. It’s a perfect reward destination after a shopping tour with kids in the nearby Mariahilferstraße. The House of the Sea Playground (as it is often called) is also one of the most popular meetup playgrounds in Vienna because of its convenient, quite-central location in a trendy residential area, its relaxed local feel, and pretty easy reachability. Plus, it offers plenty of playground and sports facilities, yet it’s not too big, and it’s very compact. In other words, Esterházy Park is just as perfect for groups as it is for moms that want to chat while keeping an eye on many kids running around in all directions. You only need to place yourself strategically in the middle of the playground, which is fortunately in the toddlers’ play area around the Climbing Knight’s Castle, and you are fine. As for the children’s’ highlights, Esterházy Park boasts a sand & mud playground, a giant slide, a giant climbing installation, and an artificially created tunnel, which is much fun for kids, as it allows for exciting hide-and-seek plays. Other playground facilities include a sand pit, slides, swings, and a fancy swinging boat that can hold many little kids. You will also find a dog area, a play water fountain, picnic tables, and a drinking-water fountain that will make your stay at the House of the Sea Playground even more comfortable. Last but not least, your sports options at Esterházy Park are virtually unlimited, since there are plenty of facilities such as table tennis, a skate park, a volleyball court, a basketball court, and calisthenics facilities.
