The Old Danube is a former arm of the Danube, and nowadays, it is a calm water that offers you and your family numerous leisure activities: swimming in the Alte Donau or in one of the many open-air swimming pools such as the lido Gänsehäufel, walking along the shore or in the Floridsdorfer Wasserpark, climbing in the Gänsehäufel High Ropes Climbing Garden, (for the most courageous) even go ice skating (at your own risk), or simply relax on one of the many meadows with picnic facilities, beach volleyball courts, mini golf, and many other offerings. Or you can indulge in culinary delights in one of the numerous restaurants.
The Old Danube is a true island paradise in northern Vienna. The boat rental Old Danube or the Schinakl boat rental at Old Danube is a good place to start.
A very hot tip: the annual light festival is on 22 July, where decorated boats, music, and a great firework display light up the Old Danube with a lively party mood. Here, you can relax, especially on beautiful days — no wonder the Old Danube is so popular not only with the Viennese but visitors alike.
