The Josefinenhütte (Die Hütte am Weg) is a somewhat hidden, yet well-known, destination restaurant located between the Kahlenberg and the Leopoldsberg, just under the Kahlenberg hill peak. It features a beautiful view over the Elisabethwiese and the Vienna Woods. The Josefinenhüte becomes very popular with cyclists and hikers, especially during the summer months, walking the City Hiking Trail 1a – Leopoldsberg and the City Hiking Trail 1 – Kahlenberg as it´s located close to both routes. You can also easily reach it by car, Bus 38 from Heiligenstadt, or by foot from Kahlenberg or Nußberg. It serves Austrian cuisine with a choice of international specialties like homemade burgers and french fries, as well as signature dishes including goulash and apple strudel, in large portions, though kid-sized portions are also available. During the summer, some dishes can be ordered at seasonal wooden market stalls located within the garden, which is an exciting experience for kids. A small playground with a sandpit and some kids cars and bikes, as well as a baby-changing station and high chairs are also available. The inside features several rooms furnished in a traditional mountain chalet-style, which provides a great option for festive celebrations or meet-ups. There is limited space for strollers, though no indoor entertainment for kids. Just opposite the Josefinenhütte, you will find the Elisabethwiese forest playground, the Wichtelparcour Kahlenberg with balancing stations for smaller kids, and the adventure park Kahlenberg Forest Rope Park. This all means your kids won´t be short of fun and play options. An e-bike charging station is located directly at the Josefinenhütte.
