Did you know that the Museum of Military History is one of the most child-friendly museums in Vienna? With its great Eugens Children’s Club, guided tours for kindergarten-age and older children, exciting puzzle books, cool events and original birthday parties, it scores well with children of all ages. The HGM invites you to partake in a history lesson about the time of the Habsburg Monarchy in Austria. It focuses primarily on the role of the army at the time, as well as the military past on the high seas. You and your family will learn about the Habsburgs and their troops through 1918, and then again about the following years of disintegration until 1945. Together, discover the automobile in which Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot in 1914. Marvel at the Archduke’s bloody tunic and chaise lounge on which he finally died – all housed in the Sarajevo Hall. This is just one of many different halls featuring different events and themes. Other rooms include the Turkish War, the Naval Power and the Artillery. The great location of the Army History Museum also enables you and your family to visit other nearby sightseeing attractions, like the House 21 (Belvedere 21), the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna, and the magnificent and beautiful Belvedere. The Schweizergarten Playground, in the nearby Schweizergarten, is a great place to let off some steam.
