The Belvedere is a magnificent baroque palace and one of the most famous and popular sights in Vienna. It is divided into Upper and Lower Belvedere, with the fabulous Belvedere Garden and the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna with the Belvedere Alpine Gardens in between. It is one of the most beautiful and impressive buildings in Europe and was once the summer residence of the Habsburg Imperial Family. Even House 21 (Belvedere 21) is still part of the Belvedere.
For kids and families: Family Sundays are composed of interactive, guided tours on a variety of art topics and creative workshops for kids and youth. These events allow children to experiment with different materials and art techniques. The “Mit Baby ins Museum” Initiative is a special 1-hour guided tour of current exhibitions designed for parents with babies under 1 year. It is offered twice a month and is stroller-friendly, though use of a baby carrier or sling is advisable. In addition, bottle warmers and baby changing tables are available. Junior guide quiz booklets are provided upon request. Themed birthday parties, guided tours, workshops, playful exhibition tours and discussion meetings with contemporary artists are offered. Kinder.Kunst.Wochen (i.e. Kids Art Weeks) are creative holiday camps organized for kids ages 7-11 during July and August. Free admission is provided to all Belvedere museums for children and youth under 19, while workshop participation is subject to a fee. A small, outdoor playground is also available.
