Citybike Wien is an innovative and eco-friendly way of getting around in Vienna, perfect for locals and partly also tourists. It´s a public bike rental system, and a great option for short trips.
Bikes can be hired and returned at any Citybike Wien station in Vienna. The service is active around the clock, 365 days a year. Currently, there are over 120 stations, many of them located next to the underground stations or other public transport options. The renting process is very easy.
First, you need to register. The one-time registration can be done online (even on mobile) or at a station. You will need a credit or bank card issued by an Austrian bank. The one-time registration fee is 1 euro and only one bicycle can be registered per card. Once registered, you can rent out any bike at any Citybike WIen station in Vienna.
Returning your bike is just as easy. Do it at any empty bike box at any Citybike Wien station. After you insert the bike into an empty bike box, make sure the green light is on. In case of problems, call the Citybike Info Hotline at 0810 500 500.
The best part is that the rental charge for the first hour is actually FREE! After that, a progressive rate is charged – the 2nd hour costs 1 euro, 3rd hour costs 2 euros, and the 4th – 120th hour costs 4 euros for each hour started. A flat fee of 600 euros is charged for exceeding the hours. Citybike WIen is ideal for short trips from points A to B by bicycle throughout Vienna, but it´s not a convenient option for longer trips, which could become quite pricey.
